the ring thing

F and I finally went ring shopping this weekend. It was really fun! I imagine having things custom-designed for you is fun in general, because people pay attention to you and try to figure out what you would like the best. Or at least that's how it should work if they're doing it right.

We came in and looked at everything in the store with the help of a very cool and enthusiastic sales girl. It took a hell of a long time to look at that much stuff, but it helped us get ideas about stuff we liked and didn't like. I think we came in hoping we'd Find Something and have rings right away, but we've got quirky preferences so that didn't happen. Then we sat down with the designer and talked about what our own rings should be like. It was awesome and fun, because we got kind of silly (I described the comet-ish shape on the final design as a "tadpole" and got a lot of shit for it).

I ended up with a ring that has a diagonal shape like this one, with two sapphires and some metal details that make a kind of comet shape. F's ring is a regular band shape, but it repeats the comet's swoopy design. They're going to be really cool and I'm excited. And I want to take my mom shopping there before I move away.

a quick note on notes

I love the invitations at this website: http://www.saimasaysdesign.com/

They do a good job of crossing the "clean modern lines" look with the "swirly Indian stuff" look. Can I can I pretty please?
