Location, location, location
We're planning on having the wedding about a year and a half from now, and we had been planning on having it in Chicago. It's where F lives now, it's the nearest big city to where I live, it's got a substantial number of F's family members and our friends... but. F's parents just moved to Alabama, my parents live in Michigan, and F and I ourselves are going to move to either Colorado or Massachusetts in six months. Why is the wedding in Chicago, again? I'm considering options.

*jaw drop* The wedding planning will be going on for one and a half years? You've got way more stamina than I.
Given how spread out everyone is, I'd say just pick an area somewhere on the East-ish side of the U.S. that (1) you find inspiring (2) is easy to get and out of for people flying and/or driving and (3) has the resources to make planning easy.
It's difficult when everyone's scattered around, but it doesn't seem that unusual to me for desis to travel to weddings in America. I think diaspora life and familial obligation just seem to require it, so don't worry too much if your wedding is a bit of a distance...
